We Have A Date!!!

So Will and Kate have set a date for their very much anticipated wedding: April 29, 2011!

Coincidentally the birthday of one of my brother (the third one) and my Godson Gab. V. cool.

Below is the news from People:

Mark your calendars: Prince William and Kate Middleton have chosen a wedding date!

Hope they declare it a holiday because that means we get a day off from work. Double yay!
Below is the news from People:

The Royal wedding will take place on Friday, April 29, 2011, according to the British Monarchy Twitter. It will take place at Westminster Abbey, the venue for the 1947 wedding of the then Princess Elizabeth, William's grandmother the Queen.

The couple, both 28, have received their wish to have a relatively early ceremony. William is known to have wanted as short an engagement as was practical, PEOPLE understands, and they both wanted a spring wedding.
Early clues as to the venue came only a day after their November 16 engagement, when Kate was seen leaving the Abbey after receiving a tour by officials.

Sources early Tuesday said that despite the fact it can seat 2,000 guests, the couple like the Abbey's "intimacy." The palace officials have also announced that the Royal Family and will pay for the church service, the music and parties. The cost of security – likely to run into millions – will be met by the British taxpayers.

Meanwhile, the couple are continuing their lives as they had been pre-engagement. Catherine Middleton, as the palace calls her, was seen shopping at upmarket superstore Waitrose in Menai Bridge, not far from the home that the prince rents in North Wales.
It will also be a public holiday in the U.K, the Prime Minister David Cameron announced. There is already the May Day holiday on the following Monday, making for a festive four-day weekend for the country.
The BBC reported that the date is also the feast day of St. Catherine of Sienna.

Mommy Concerns

How's this for another run of not-so-goodluck? Wolf have had a case of the sniffles this past week. He was on his way to recovery when last Saturday, after our trek to the mall, he caught a fever and by nighttime, he has shown symptoms of his amoebiasis (he got it way back in 2008 and it recurs every now and then).

It is not as severe as the first time he got it but I'm concerned about his lack of appetite due to the onsaught of sickness.

We're hoping and praying that he recovers soon. It breaks my heart always, always to see him sick.  Ah, such vulnerability when one becomes a mother.

On a more positive note, I got some fantastic news last Friday but I'm not authorized to divulge yet.

It's good news but for some reason I felt teeny, tiny bad about it.

Anyway, I'll shout it to the world as soon as soon I'm given the go ahead signal.

And please, do join my ongoing contest: http://www.chelsspltmlk.com/2010/11/free-statement-shirt-for-my-500th-post.html

We still have a week to go.

Thump, Thump + A Very Royal Engagement

The past week had been stressful with me and my mother-in-law getting sick at the same time.

She had an infection and a really, really sore and painful varicose veins while I have had a lot of palpitation episodes.

Now I wasn't sure where the palpitations where coming from because I have been given clearance from hyperthyroid earlier this year.

So off to the cardiologist I went and just to be safe he advised me to undergo the thyroid tests again, CBC, chest xray and ECG.
The results came in today and everything is normal except for my ECG. According to my cardio, there are some veins and arteries in my heart where the blood flow is somehow impeded. Hence, the difficulty in breathing and dizziness.

I have to undergo 2D Echo and Treadmill Stress Test.

Hope it's nothing serious. It's no fun being sick and I want to start playing soccer again because I want to introduce Wolf to the sport. Need to be in top shape.

On a lighter note, I would lke to express my delight at Prince William and Kate Middleton's recently announced engagement.

They have lasted this long and I'm glad that they have a chance to go after that elusive 'happily ever after' experience.
Fervently hoping that it all works out.

My Current Boob Tube Faves

House MD was introduced to me by my friend Ardee way back in 2004.  My husband and I got hooked the after watching the 1st episode.  Hugh Laurie and the crew have undergone a whole lot of changes these past few seasons (and I still miss Cameron because she looked so good with Chase) and I'm still uneasy about the House-Cuddy hook up.

Really, I'd prefer a Wilson-House hook up. Wouldn't you?

Watching The Office was an influence of my former boss (and Wolf'd Godfather), Rowald.
I'm wondering how the show would move forward without Michael Scott's cringe-inducing antics. =(.

The PB and J tandem has lost their kilig factor and I'm hoping that they show more Creed Bratton. He's the only guy in this show that makes sense. I miss his one-liners.

Modern family is my current favorite. The cast dynamic is just wonderful, wonderful. Very funny and engaging and they seem to have avoided the sophomore jinx that Glee is currently struggling with.

My most favorite character: Gloria! (Jay!!!!)

A Peaceful Rest for The Love Woman

A Kind of Burning

Ophelia Dimalanta
(1934-2010)

it is perhaps because

one way or the other

we keep this distance

closeness will tug as apart

in many directions

in absolute din

how we love the same

tirvial pursuits and

insignificant gewgaws

spoken or inert

claw at the same straws

pore over the same jigsaws

trying to make heads or tails

you take the edges

i take the center

keeping fancy guard

loving beyond what is there

you sling at the stars

i bedeck the weeds

straining in song or

profanities towards some

fabled meeting apart

from what dreams read

and suns dismantle

we have been all the hapless

lovers in this wayward world

in almost all kinds of ways

except we never really meet

but for this kind of burning.

Blake Lively and Leonardo DiCaprio Hook Up?

Well, I've been down with the flu for the past two days and when I came back online, here's what I found out from PEOPLE:

When newly single Blake Lively is spotted dining with Leonardo DiCaprio, eyebrows are sure to raise.

But was the duo's dinner at New York City eatery The Lion more business than pleasure?

Sources tell PEOPLE that although Lively, 23, and DiCaprio, 35, were indeed sitting next to each other, they were not sitting alone.
The dinner "was with Baz [Luhrmann] and five other people," a source says.

Why Luhrmann? According to Deadline Hollywood, the famed director is currently on the hunt for an actress to play Daisy Buchanan in his next film project, The Great Gatsby. The site also reports that DiCaprio recently read for Luhrmann as the film's star Jay Gatsby.

So, the dinner, a source says, was "all about the movie."

Aside from Lively, Luhrmann reportedly has Keira Knightley, Amanda Seyfried, Michelle Williams, Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman in mind as contenders for the role.

----

Awww. So it was just business after all. I kinda like them together. Let's see how the movie progresses.

The Latest On Charice

Reposting the latest Charice news. This girl is really getting somewhere!

Thank you and congratulations CIA (Charice Internet Army), you have done it again! Charice is the winner of J-14 magazine’s Icon of Tomorrow Award! Yes, you heard correctly – she won, she won, she won! We asked you to vote and you responded. You responded just as you had when we asked you to vote for her to win the “Best Oprah Show Musical Performance” award! Last December, teen singing sensation Charice thanked her fan base Chasters after she edged global singing stars in the ‘Best Oprah Show Musical Performace’ award. Charice beat Whitney Houston, James Taylor, Michael Bublé, Journey, and the Black Eyed Peas in the online poll on Oprah.com, receiving 70% of the votes for her ‘Note to God’ performance. The Black Eyed Peas received only 9% of the votes. They clearly do not have an Internet Army like Charice does.
J-14 Magazine is the #1 teen celebrity magazine and our Charice is pictured in the December issue several times. The December issue is now available so make sure to get your copy today! The winners of all of the J-14 Teen Icon 2010 Awards are featured, including Charice, the Icon of Tomorrow! Glee, which features our Charice as Sunshine Corazon, won as Iconic TV Show. There is also a feature on the College Class of 2010 which asks the young stars what they would be doing if they were actually attending their freshman year of college right now. The magazine states that Charice is taking online classes working towards her bachelor’s degree in communications. Charice is also featured in the piece “14 Seconds With the Stars” where they were asked to name the best gift they have ever given. Charice replied with, “I gave a laptop to the fan who first posted my videos on YouTube.”
There is only one more outstanding favor we had asked of you and that was to vote to win Charice an official spot as a top five nominee for the 2011 People’s Choice Awards as Breakout Music Artist of the Year. We also asked you to vote for her in other categories – Favorite Pop Artist, Female Artist, Web Celeb, and Favorite Song (Pyramid). Voting has ended so all we can do is wait. The official nominees in all categories will be named on November 9th. We will find out then if the Charice Internet Army can maintain their perfect voting record. Let’s hope so!

Tricking and Treating (Reposting With Pics!)

Halloween is a holiday that the Philippines do not usually celebrate. But over the last few years, the novelty of celebrating Halloween have started to catch on and we also started celebrating Halloween traditions such as Trick or Treating for our tots.

Galileo Pasong Tamo, where Wolf goes for daycare, invited him to join them in their annual Halloween Party.

Wolf and other Galileo students had a blast celebrating by playing fun games and eating snacks provided by McDonald's Kingswood.

After the festivities at McDo, they also had fun trick or treating by knocking on doors of Kingswood residents.

Wolf's pumpkin bucket is brimming full of treats after we were done.

We are definitely looking forward for a spooky and fun Halloween next year.

I'm Not A Fan But I'm A Believer

When the Charice bandwagon started, I was blase about the whole thing. I just didn't care and wasn't impressed by her supposed vocal prowess. Then came the guestings on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and Oprah and the association with famed songwriter David Foster but still, I was too cynical to believe that the girl was simply that good. I could think of one or two local singers that are better than her.

But when I watched the 'showdown' between her character and Lea Michele's character on the 'Audition' episode of Glee, I would have to admit that my doubts about the girl was wrong. She was on equal footing with Lea Michele.

She simply was smashing and I could say that her singing career would definitely go places.

Charice just needs to improve a bit on her acting and that would take time.

In the meantime, looking forward for more Glee episodes with a little bit of Sunshine on it.

Retired, Extremely Dangerous

Hollywood is more forgiving on actors aging and still getting meaty roles. But actresses? Almost always, once an actress turns a certain age, they get relegated to the non-meaty roles: mother, grandmother, hags, aunts, the wife who dies 5 minutes into the movie.

Double standard is really evident but there are still some who gets more refined with age, like wine, they say. Meryl Streep can still kick the ass of a twenty-something actress and she can take the roles she want and it wouldn't matter if it is a hit or a flop in the box office.

Which is why I thouroughly enjoyed Helen Mirren's ass-kicking character, Victoria, when my husband and I watched RED last Sunday.

Imagine a sharp-shooting and machine gun-wielding 65 year old with the sensibilities of a Grand Dame and you would wish that your own Grandma is just as cool.

Of course, based on the title alone, employed a group of Hollywood Oldies But Still Baddies: Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, and Brian Cox.

John Malkovich's character is a hoot. He was literally a walking time bomb. I still see Bruce Willis as John McLane, except that he is a lot older now than when he started saying "Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker!" to the Die Hard franchise villains.

For a movie that doesn't take itself seriously, I would prefer RED over the  The A Team and The Expendables put together anytime.

Sleeps With Butterflies

repost...

"Sleeps With Butterflies"
Tori Amos

Airplanes

Take you away again

Are you flying

Above where we live

Then I look up a glare in my eyes

Are you having regrets about last night

I'm not but I like rivers that rush in

So then I dove in

Is there trouble ahead

For you the acrobat

I won't push you unless you have a net

You say the word

You know I will find you

Or if you need some time

I don't mind

I don't hold on

To the tail of your kite

I'm not like the girls that you've known

But I believe I'm worth coming home to

Kiss away night

This girl only sleeps with butterflies

With butterflies

So go on and fly then boy

Balloons

Look good from on the ground

I fear with pins and needles around

We may fall then stumble

Upon a carousel

It could take us anywhere

I'm not like the girls that you've known

But I believe I'm worth coming home to

Kiss away night

This girl only sleeps with butterflies

With butterflies

With butterflies

So go on and fly boy

I'm thinking of shutting down this blog. The relevance has ceased. Maybe I should move forward.

So Strange

After all

What were you really

Looking for

And I wonder

When will I learn

Blue isn't red

Everybody knows this

And I wonder

When will I learn

When will I learn

Guess I was in deeper than

I thought I was

If I have enough love

For the both of us

Not A Lot of Love Left

They just don't make romantic comedies like they used to.

Sad.

Wolf is on a grand vacation over at his lola (my mom) so I am taking up the opportunity to watch all the movies that my husband downloaded.

Last night, I watched a slew of movies that were just recently shown on cinema:

Valentine's Day
The Back-Up Plan
The Bounty Hunter

Each one was more disappointing than the last.  Sigh.

I think I  need my dose of Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy.

It's A Mad World But We Love Tears for Fears!

And I thought we were going to resort to getting tickets from scalpers.

We knew about TFF's concert way back in December when Chuvaness posted about it on her blog.

I happen to have an older brother who I just knew would go for this event.

He'll be in his 40s soon, so go figure.

Me? I'm familiar enough with their songs.  I grew up listening to their more popular songs. And I think, I think I managed to scratch kuya's  CD, while memorizing the lyrics to "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" and "Head Over Heels"

Anyway, we procrastinors, have delayed reserving and purchasing our tickets and  then word got out the tickets were sold out the day before the concert.

I assumed that plans fell through, but no, he was adamant that we meet at Araneta at 8 pm.

I was bit scared. I don't want to go to jail for a petty crime like buying scalped tickets. That's just too lame.

So I was there by 8pm, on the dot. There was short line on the ticket-selling area and there were still available tickets but those are for SRO though.  Problem is, my brother called to tell me he will be late so I hung out at Fully Booked while waiting and fidgeting that the precious tickets will be sold out.

He arrived at around 8:50, whizzed past the ticket sales area and we got in!

And what's fun is that at exactly 9pm, TFF was on! Front act was done! Yay!

That's when my brother and his hobbit-like companion went back in time and celebrated the 80s with jokes and diatribe that I simply could not get.

But the show was simply amazing.

Simply smashing.

There were songgs on their new album that I'm not familiar with but those were chillax moments.

The highlights were their hits from the 80s. No school like the old school, I say.

I was glad I didn't ditch my brother to play PS3.

The concert got my brother and his friend so excited that they couldn't stop talking about a possible Police, China Crisis and Spandau Ballet reunion.

Ahh, to be an 80s kid.

Young Love, Sweet Love

Slept at around 4 am. Watched Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Not the sanitized version on HBO, btw.

Ah, to be young, ebullient, and carefree and accompanied by three lovingly supportive gay friends-slash-bandmates on an adventure in the city.

I miss.

Chatterbox

I had a 15 minute bonding session with my husband today.

He had to drop by the office to pick up the remote for our Asus Oh! Play HD player (a wonderful, wonderful piece of machinery if hooked on a 32" LCD TV and a 1TB hard drive worth of movies) which we left at Mom's when we stayed there over the weekend.

I only had a 30 minute lunch (boo!) and I spent the first 10 minutes scarfing down my pancit as fast as I can before going down and meeting Boa.

Apparently, I had been quite chatty which prompted Boa to comment, 'ang daldal mo!,' in an amazed manner.

Well I told him that I'm talking his ear off because he's, well, conscious!

Usually when I get home and still have a bit of energy left I would attempt to talk to him even when's conked out. He would reply, yes, but by the time he wakes up, he had forgotten that we had a conversation at all.

So, now that he's fully conscious, I have to tell him all that I want to say.

Perfectly reasonable, right?

Anyway, I'll say this again, I have the best big brother in the world. He's gonna treat me to the Tears for Fears concert on Sunday. Yipeee!!!!

All we needed was water, you sick SOB.

You better enjoy your life while you still can, you shriveled and horrible old man.  Because Satan will definitely whip your ass in hell when you die. I am also hoping soon.

Big Bro

Had a row with husband yesterday (another story, another time perhaps). We've both learned during our boyfriend-girlfriend days,  that it's best if we do not meet it head on and give each other time to stew. Well I've learned that's how Boa deals with his shit. Normally, I'd nag and nag and nag and then end up saying something really hurtful which I can't take back anymore. So giving each other space works out fine for us.

I texted my brother that I'll be going home after my shift.

Didn't ask any more questions, just that he told me where I could find the keys and that Maya is chained so that she won't be able to attack me. Just in case, since Maya is a huge, playful Rottweiler.  Hehe.

We were preparing lunch today, and my usually quiet and reserved brother was chatting up a storm while were peeling and slicing and dicing.

He must've known that something was up because I go home in the middle of the night without an explanation. It was his way of distracting me without prying just in case I wasn't ready to talk yet.

I'm grateful.

Turning 27

Didn't know that I shared my birthday with Mario Andretti.

Cool.

No celebrations this year, unfortunately.

But as long as I'm chilling with my boys,  that's quite fine.

Looking forward to Freefall-ing this Saturday. We're so gonna rock.

A Bibliophile's Lament

I miss my books.

I don't know when we will settle into our own permanent home but I made Boa promise that my books must have their own space to breathe. That's imperative.

Left home to live on my own 5 years ago. I was living in a 24 square meter space but I managed to cram my books in by placing them on durable, plastic boxes which I stacked beside my bed. Served as my bedside table as well.

After that, I've lived in a dorm, moved back home, gotten pregnant and hitched (in that order, if I may add), moved into my MIL's home during pregnancy, and then moved back home during Wolf's first and a half years of life.

I'm now back living to my MIL's house but during that exhausting sojourn, that back and forth rally of nomadic living, I posited my books at my old room. And that's where my babies have been holed up ever since. They're gathering dust. Pages waiting to be flipped and letters aching to be read. Poor things.

I miss them. But someday.

The Birthday Boy and His Terrible Twos

Wolf turned two on February 6 and along with it, he is now showing symptoms of the dreaded Terrible Twos.

Sigh.

Wolf is a punk. He had always been this little bundle of boisterous, fun loving and super-kulit kid,  running on 9 volts of Energizer. He's actually my Mini-Me in that area: can't still for long.  We accepted that.

Despite his kakulitan, he has always been even tempered and sweet natured. I kid you not.
He wasn't a colicky baby. Have no problems putting him to sleep because he can sleep on his own even as a baby and now that he's a toddler, sleeping time is a breeze with him.

So the sudden changes these past few days alarmed us.

There had been a lot of fake-crying to get what he wants. A lot of kicking and screaming and lying on the ground if his demands are not met. And I'm also blaming my mother-in-law for his recent addiction, which is playing with ice cubes.

Let me tell you why I'm against him playing ice cubes: First of all, it's messy. And most importantly, he is recuperating from a cold and sucking ice would not help him heal.

Last Saturday, we celebrated his birthday at Star City with the whole family. The kids had a blast, by the way.  Then we had a really big seafood dinner at Dampa on Macapagal.

Everything was going fine until the waiter placed a bucketful of ice in front of him.

And then bam!

The clamor for ice began. And when we didn't comply, it turned into a full blown tantrum-fest.

It was the first time that he did that in public, so to make him stop, they gave him what he wanted. Note that my mother is against the whole thing as well because of the choking risk.

Admittedly, we were horrified by his behavior. First time that he threw a tantrum in public. And I didn't think we handled it well.

To be fair, there had been major changes in the househould recently which disrupted our daily routine, and that must've upset him as well.

Well, we're learning and we're experimenting on ways how to discipline him. He's a headstrong kid so sometimes cajolery works but you have to show him who's boss. Because if you're a pushover like his lolas, he'll bully you. As in.

Despite the changes, we're happy and glad and relieve that his cold did not escalate into something else. he had fun on his birthday. He is a happy, and healthy, and funny kid.

Boa and I are the blessed ones in this case.

Happy birthday dear Wolfie.  We have so much love for you yet sometimes there's so little time.
